Hillside School
Is a residential school for boys with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. We accept placements for young people aged 10-16 years from all local authorities in Scotland.
Hillside school has been established for over 25 years and the management team is highly qualified and experienced in its field. The School has an excellent reputation for the care and education of young people for whom main stream education is no longer an option.
The School is situated within a 120 acre estate of grass and woodland in the beautiful east coast village of Aberdour.
At Hillside School children and young people are engaged in a warm, accepting and child-centred manner in order to create an atmosphere in which they can accept the interventions of tolerant adults, who, although working in close partnership with parents/carers, are sufficiently objective to make an effective contribution to growth maturity and change.
The school seeks to create, through warm, accepting and consistent relationships, a supportive atmosphere which will be beneficial to our children and young people in helping to alleviate their social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
It provides living and learning experiences and activities which promote the development of individual talents and abilities and which will equip our children and young people with the knowledge and skills required to meet future challenges.
From the outset of each placement, the co-operation of the child is sought by requiring firstly his agreement to accept a placement, and secondly his personal commitment to the placement. Children are encouraged to participate in all decisions concerning their care and education and to take an active part in their reviews and Children’s Hearings as well as in their Unit meetings.

Parents/Carers
Are likewise encouraged to work in partnership with the school and to meet regularly with the other professionals involved in the care of their child.
Each child is allocated a Key Team which consists of a member from each of the education, care and senior staff teams. This team liaises regularly to ensure that the child’s care plan is being implemented, to monitor the child’s progress and to make recommendations for any necessary modifications of the plan. The Key Team will be present at the child/young person’s school review and at least one member of the team will accompany a young person to his Children’s Hearing.
The school has four residential units which provide high quality accommodation on a 52 week basis. In all four units emphasis has been placed on creating an attractive and homely environment in which children can have some degree of privacy and choice. In all of our units this has been enhanced by the addition to our residential care teams, of house-parents whose main priority is to deliver a high standard of primary care to the boys.
Young people are encouraged to continue with hobbies and membership of clubs which they may have had on admission. In addition there are many pastimes and pursuits, as well as games and sports, in which young people can take part. Hillside is well placed for swimming pools, golf and fishing locations and there are good beaches and natural resources within easy reach.
The school takes part in a Football League with similar schools and has a good record of success.
